About the Program
The Cosmetology program is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the beauty industry. This engaging, hands-on program combines the art and science of cosmetology, including hair, nail, and skincare services, while allowing students to earn high school credits and accumulate hours toward state certification. Through a combination of classroom instruction and practical lab experience, students develop skills in all areas of cosmetology using current industry techniques, tools, and technology.

Course Descriptions & Certifications
Year One - Cosmetology
-
* Overview of programs including: barbering, hair design, esthetics and nail technology
* Industry professional workshops
* Safety protocols
-
*Reading proficiency at 9th grade level
* Excellent high school attendance record
* Health, Biology, and Speech are all classes recommended to have taken prior to this class
* Successful completion of Integrated Math 1 or Algebra 1, highly recommended
* Good physical coordination.
Year Two - Cosmetology

* Students select a program from Cosmetology year one to specialize in.
* Practice on real clients in the cosmetology clinic.
* Create and manage their professional profile on the clinic booking page (Meevo)
* Create and manage their own digital portfolio for resumes and future career.

* Must pass 1st year program and meet/demonstrate competence of course standards to qualify for 2nd year; limited space available.
* Excellent attendance during 1st year program.

Students will need two items for proof of identification for licensure. the acceptable forms of identification are listed HERE
Certifications & College Credit

* Oregon State Certification in one specialty: Hair, Barbering, Nails, Esthetics.
The Oregon State Certification is an opportunity, in which students are prepared thorough practical methods to obtain eligibility to take state certification exam.
* Work-based experience in the Cosmetology clinic at the WCA.

Year two students that participate in licensure practice hours are able to transfer their practice hours and cosmetology course transcript credits to a participating beauty school.
