About the Program

This program is designed for students interested in entry-level positions in the construction industry. A combination of theory and hands-on experience is applied during the construction of several projects. Students receive both classroom and lab instruction, and the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to enter construction careers, apprenticeships, or continuing education. Emphasis is on both residential and commercial construction including framing, roofing, plumbing, AC/HVAC, electrical wiring, architecture, foundation and interior/exterior finishing.

Meet the Team

Mr. Hueller has over twenty years of experience in the construction trades industry, including ten years of experience in CTE.  As a professional in the construction industry, he provides teaching and valuable insights based on his extensive industry knowledge.

    I would have to say applied math (Math with a purpose) or helping student be able to visualize their world in 2D/3D.

    * What is your dream vacation?

    Hard to answer. Probably visiting Europe, or go back to Alaska and catch a bunch of fish!

    Those students who show up and take responsibility for their learning and engage with the work at hand.

Course Descriptions & Certifications

Year One - Construction Trades

  • * OSHA Safety

    *Introduction to tools

    *Employability Skills

    *Intro to Drafting/CAD

    *Individual/Smaller Shop Projects

  • * Reading proficiency at 9th grade level

    * Must have successfully completed Algebra 1 or higher.

    * Excellent high school attendance record.

    * Good physical coordination.

Year Two - Construction Trades

  • * Foundations & Framing

    * Introduction to Electrical

    * Plumbing & HVAC

    *Additional CAD/Architecture

    *Larger Shop Projects

  • Must pass 1st year program and meet/demonstrate competence of course standards to qualify for 2nd year; limited space available.

    Note: May need to provide own transportation to internship site and provide current car insurance.

Certifications & College Credit

  • * OSHA 10 Trainings: construction industry certification for worksite safety.

    * AHA HeartSaver/CPR/First Aid certification

    * NCCER Core V6: trade certifications for knowledge

    preparation.

    * Forklift /Scissor Lift Certification Training available spring or summer of senior year, must be 18 yrs old

    *Career Connection Union Carpenter Training

    *Potential Flagger Certification

  • * Trade Skills Fundamental: (Year 1, Semester 2) by Chemeketa Community College's "College Credit Now" program, eligible for 5 credits, $30 a year.

    * Construction Projects 2, Drafting/CAD: (Year 2, Semester 2) by Chemeketa Community College's, "College Credit Now" program, eligible for 3 credits, $30 a year.
